Katrín - Katra
Katrín Gísladóttir born 1962 in Vienna, Austria.
Started working in clay 1994.
She has attended a variety of courses as well as a seminars in Myndlistaskóli Reykjavíkur. She has particapated in a demonstration with other people in Listasafn Árnesinga, competed in a design contest held by Orkuveitan. She also has held a showcase with her father, Gísli Sigurðsson teacher and artist. In 2007 she went to New Mexico and learned raku and lots of things related to raku.
Katrín works under the name Katra and she mostly works with clay, glass, iron and horsehair wich she interweaves into the piece of art.
The clay horses are inspired by the icelandic horse, who is a short, strong and a happy character yet determined. They are mysterious creatures and no two pieces are the same and i decorate them with crowns, wings and icelandic horse hair. The horses are made from natural clay and is fired, often multiple times in a raku oven.
